Michael R. Smith Profile

Michael R. Smith has been serving as a Board Director since 2013 and a permanent resident of Rio Rancho since 1988. He is currently in retirement.  Mike’s past work and educational accomplishments include being the Vice President of Business Operation for Global Classroom and Chief Operating Officer for Innovate+Educate, a national non-profit focusing on STEM and education to workforce issues. Michael has over 35 years of experience in executive leadership, business systems design and deployment, learning systems design, operations management, and human capital development.

 

Michael worked in Public Service for over 30 years with the City of Albuquerque and the United States Air Force. During that tenure he founded and directed Public Service University. He also was associate director of a solid waste department and held several other executive leadership positions in human resources, organizational/workforce development, criminal justice, and government operations. Mike is an aggressive problem-solver and solutions-focused leader. He is known for his ability to facilitate through challenging community/business issues and lead stakeholders towards consensus and sound solutions. He has operated his own consulting practice since 1999, providing business system development, strategic/operations management, and learning system design for numerous federal, state, and county agencies, and private sector clients in the entertainment and hospitality, casino, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, call center, higher education, and electronics industry.

 

Mike has been a successful business owner/entrepreneur for three decades and served on several national and regional board of directors for non-profits. From 2003- 2013, Michael was an adjunct professor, teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in business, leadership, learning,  sociology, and psychology. 

Mike has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, a Masters Degree in Organizational Management, and advanced Phd level course work in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. 

 

Mike is a proud disabled veteran with an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force and Veteran.
