Why, Hello there March!!πŸ€πŸŒ·I have missed you and look forward to the warmth of spring, blooming flowers, and time change. 😎 This week is our first full week, it's been awhile. End of Quarter 3 is this Friday, March 4th so be sure to check over all of your work and ensure you are understanding the concepts. 
  • Due to our snow day on 2/24, we are bumping sound energy to Monday! Yes!! SOUND! 🎧 πŸ”ŠBring your headphones for this immersive experience. This is one of my favorites! 
  • Newton's 2nd Law of Motion is explored with some mini activities and explore a bit more into the lives of Women in Physics in recognition of Women's History Month. 🎒 πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬
  • Wind Energy on Wednesday. What exactly is wind? Where does it form and how do we collect energy from this source? LAB DAY: Build (team) an anemometer and monitor wind patterns.πŸƒ William Kamkwamba built the wind turbine in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, to save his village, so let's connect the science on how this works.🌬
  • Renewable and Nonrenewable Sources review plus we get a look at our final project details. *Energy types Quiz retake on Thursday, be ready. This is your assignment focus for the week and will be entered in Powerschool.

Unique week as we will be in person Monday-Wednesday followed by an asynchronous day on Thursday for our schedule this week. Friday support is online by appointment. Let's take a look at this week:
  • Our energy unit is underway and we will explore Electricity! Super electrifying! Plus a lab is set for Wednesday, bring your gear, lab book too. 
  • Push and Pull Games this Monday! It's a station rotation day! Explore and discover what the science is behind these forces.πŸ’‘
  • How much energy does your house use in a day? A month? πŸ€” We will be exploring exactly how much energy you use in a 24 hour period.

😁 We are back in person this week! Can't wait to see you all too! As we get back into the "norm" of our day to day, be sure to follow up on any work over the 2-week virtual time to ensure you are understanding what is going on in class. Let's roll! 
  • Monday- getting back into the daily groove. Clear out the old unit and get focused on our new Energy unit. What is energy, force, motion, and work?
  • Types of Energy exploration! Who knew there were so many "types" of energy? Notes this week and a special lab. Vocabulary for the new unit begins, have your cards ready.

πŸ’»Week 2 of Virtual Learning continues and we are now at the end of our Solids, Liquids, & Gases unit. You have BIG opportunities this week to demonstrate your understanding of the unit concepts and a chance to grab some extra credit is coming this Thursday. 
  • Monday- time to share your S,L,& G brochure! I am so excited to see how you all brought this together. Mrs. Miller is printing them in color for us. Plus one more opportunity to work at those Gas Laws before your test. 
  • Tuesday- Unit 3: Solids, Liquids, & Gases Assessment STUDY, STUDY
  • Wednesday, we begin our new unit on Energy! ⚑
  • Thursday is a special scavenger hunt. If you are able to participate, you will be grabbing some items or taking pictures/screenshots, so be ready. Ex. "something that is powered by a battery"

  Now for science this week...we are reviewing L3 Gas Behaviors and spending time creating a project that demonstrates all that you have learned in this unit. Estimated online time will be from 20-30 minutes.
  Due to the move to virtual this week, our final test has been moved to January 31st. This means that this is your week everyone; your week to review, ask questions, complete assignments, check in with me, to ensure you understand all the concepts that were taught. You totally got this, I know it! πŸ’»

πŸƒ Greetings! The time has come, the ending of our unit, the time when assignments are all turned in, studying for the final exam is starting, and you are checking in to ensure you understand the concepts. This week we will have our vocabulary quiz on Thursday, be ready. 
  • Monday- NO SCHOOL for the MLK Jr. Holiday 🀟
  • Lesson 3 in Savaas continues: Gas Behavior. Complete the quiz online, due by Wednesday
  • Binder check on Wednesday this week, check that all the required components are complete, met the requirements, and are organized in your binder. No official vocabulary check this time so check that you have everything. πŸ“˜
  • Gas poster time- last one too. Prizes available as with the last two including vote on best representation. Plus....we wrap up our S,L,& G group game! Winners will be announced next week!

  • Exploring properties of liquids and gases this week; new poster competition, point options, and new "helps" 🚧 that teams can gain towards their final test in unit 3.

  • Monday (usual schedule) is a final look at Lesson 2 Changes in State and a recap of the previous 2 lessons. Monday, FC classes are having their final exams during 4th hour. All late work is due by today! Absolutely no exceptions now as grades are due. πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ„

Science the week of December 6-9, 2021

πŸŽ„The holiday season is in full mode and it is our last full week of school as finals are next week. Here is the scoop for science:
  • Lesson 2 Changes of State begins. We have more pieces to add to our science binders, so make sure to bring it to class. 
  • Tuesday is a huge focus on vocabulary kind of a day. Bring your cards/computer and let's hit it! 
  • Our lab day will resume with a virtual lab this go around and a small demo. Must have your science journal on Wednesday. No lab coats or goggle need this time. 
  • Have you found the bonus hidden in the room yet? A second bonus is now hidden plus we select a winner of the 6 solid type poster. 
This is the week that requires you to ensure all your late work is submitted, you have shown your science fair board to me for a grade (it's part of your final). If you are at home learning, check in daily in GC and connect with me about your since fair project for grading.

Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break and let the holiday season begin! This week is THE week scholars, the RIA Science Fair is this Friday, December 3, 2021 from 8-11 (times may vary). If you are at home learning, continue to check in daily in GC and or email me directly.  Let's roll! πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬
 
  • Jumping into Lesson 1, States of Matter this week starting with types of solids. Have your science binder ready.
  • Tuesday is a return to our vocabulary focus for this unit. Please have your index cards/program you intend to use for this unit ready. 
  • We will also dive into types of liquids and learn all about viscosity. I hope no one is resistant to this flow! πŸ˜œπŸ€“
  • Gases later in the week-πŸ’¨ Battle of the 3 States of Matter Class Competition is still going, earn some major points this week and 2 hidden bonuses are located somewhere in the room, keep your eyes wide open! πŸ‘€
  • Lesson 1 on Savaas including Quiz #1 and I want to hear your speeches this Thursday! Be prepared to share with your table group all the hard work you put into your projects.

Science the week of November 15-18, 2021

Hello! Hello! 🧬 This week will be split evenly with a focus on our new unit; Solids, Liquids, & Gases and time to work on science fair projects. Here is the breakdown:
  • Monday & Tuesday marks the beginning of Unit 3: Solids, Liquids. & Gases. Pre-assessment, new compendium, and new approaches with how we utilize the text this go around will be covered. Plus, we will have a new team S, L, & G competition that will earn help towards the final project. Details to come! Bring your science binder on both days please, be prepared. 
  • Wednesday & Thursday will be devoted to your science fair project. This time will be spent working on the final stages of your project; typing what is going on your board/slide show, all the prep work (color, decor, headers, layout) on your board/slide show, your speech and preparation to answer questions to the judges, conclusion, resources, checking the rubric etc. Scholars will be expected to work on their project the whole class time, be prepared and have a plan. Projects that are fully completed and accepted by Ms. Paulson will receive in-class work. 
*Research in Action (RIA) of Science Fair is December 1st
**6th Grade projects "due" NOV 18 as a final check/next steps support. 
 
At-home Learners, continue to check-in daily on Google Classroom assignments and work on your science fair project, this is due when you return in-person. Please schedule a time to meet virtually with me so I can check in and support you. πŸ‘

Little bit of a tricky schedule this week, do your best and be sure to show up to class virtually for a LIVE meet (on Wednesday) during your normally scheduled class time.πŸ¦ƒ
  • End of Unit 2 Assessment is on Monday. Review all 3 lessons in Savaas and study your binder and vocabulary cards. πŸ“–
  • Wrap up our compendium on matter, tear down and prepare for the next unit. 
  • Wednesday is a Google LIVE Meet at your designated class time. Anticipate 15-20 minutes meet time and the remainder will be work time on the assignment. 
  • ALL scholars should continue to work on your science fair project. DUE NOV 18th. πŸ“
