Honors English 9

Welcome to Honors English 9! This year we will delve deep into the writing process, while learning close reading techniques that will allow us to look at important historical texts, both fiction and nonfiction. Some of the topics we will explore this year: Debates, poetry, speeches, fiction, and historical moments told through the eyes of literature. Get ready to write, a lot. Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. You will find the syllabus attached below and the daily agenda can be accessed in the column to the right.
Suggested Supply List:

A binder and subject divider

5” x 7” index cards (these are large ones – you can find them at Office Max/Staples)

Highlighters

A box of tissue – PLEASE!!

Antibacterial wipes PLEASE!!

Cell Phone Policy:

In this class, I collect cell phones at the start of class and place them in a basket. This will begin on the second day of class and will continue throughout the year. The class is rigorous and I expect a lot from you; in my experience cell phones are a distraction and I hope to offer you a break from your cellphone for 70 minutes a day.

Late Work:
I take late work up to a week after it was assigned, with a 10 percent deduction for every day it is late, including weekends.
