Course Description and Outcomes
The AP Biology course is designed to offer scholars a solid foundation in introductory college-level biology. The course is structured around the four big ideas, enduring understandings and science practices and covers the following topics and skills, AP Biology Course at a Glance.
The Science Practices for AP Biology include Quantitative Skills and require that you know when, why, and how to use your AP Biology Equations and Formulas. These equations and formulas help you to analyze and evaluate data, refine your experiments, justify, apply, evaluate and create models in order to understand biological phenomena.
The course is structured around inquiry in the lab and the use of the seven science practices throughout the course. The full AP Biology lab manual is available here, AP Biology Investigative Labs. Scholars will conduct a minimum of eight inquiry-based investigations (two per big idea throughout the course).
AP Exam Scholars are encouraged, but not required, to take the A.P. exam on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at noon. Those receiving scores of 3 or greater (out of 5) may be eligible to earn 2 semesters credit for biology at most colleges.
