To get you started, outlined below are some basics:
Norms for Scholars using Google Meet-Expectations during virtual teaching
-RESPECT at all times!
-Use technology appropriately, respect your Manager, yourself, and others
-Cameras on
-Mics muted
-Respectful conversation both verbal and in the chat (no side conversations)
***one person speaks at a time
-Do not change who is presenting
-Enter class on time
-Limit distractions (stuffed animals, pets, toys of any kind)
-Complete work on time
-Remember: A majority of the classwork will be done outside of the Google Meeting-use your time wisely
-Submit work through Google Classroom
-Make arrangements for Office Hours in advance (email preferred)
-Dress appropriately for learning
Late Work Policy- All work is due on the due date. Late work will receive ½ credit. (Feedback may not be available for late work.) One “Amnesty” day will be offered per quarter. (Remember, our current schedule gives you a great deal of time to complete assignments.)
Attendance Grades- Grades will be given for attendance and weighted at 10%. Come to class prepared, ready to learn, and follow the Norms for Scholars using Google Meet and you will receive all the points!
Grading: My grades are set-up using weighted categories. Tests/Labs/Projects = 30%; Quizzes/Entrance or Exit Tickets =30%; Classwork (which includes work done at home) 30%; and Attendance = 10%.
Absences: All assignments will originate through Google Classroom. That is the first place you should check to see what is due. I will also post assignments on the website calendar as an announcement. Complete the assignment and turn it in. It may be helpful for you to email me to let me know that you are going to be absent and that you are checking for work that is due.
Cell Phone or other electronic devices not related to our online class: Turn off your cell phone or other device not related to our class when you come to our Google Meet. There will be days when we will use these devices, but it will not be every day and I will let you know in advance.

SUPPLIES: Dress out clothes- Shorts (must be mid-thigh length or longer), navy or black sweats in colder months (no logos or pictures), tennis shoes (no open toed shoes), socks, deodorant, notebook, folder for handouts
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
THIS COURSE WILL provide the understanding of a fitness regimen in life and the benefits of regular exercise to an individual’s health and mental wellbeing. Incorporate and demonstrate sportsmanship by participating in all activities within range of their ability.
SCHOLARS WILL choose a fitness or health regiment for the semester. They will design a research project around a personal goal in the area of improving their overall health in their life. They can refer to the NM standards to help them formulate their question if necessary. They will collect data to answer their personal question during the time frame they are in this program. They will measure the impact of their choice over time by keeping a weekly journal of at least five entries that is to be submitted by Thursday each week. They will complete the Program’s packet of adventures and reports.
STANDARDS: The ASK Academy standards are based on the New Mexico State Physical Education and Health Performance Standards.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION: Scholars will be expected to dress out, participate, and show effort on a daily basis. Scholars will also have the opportunity to complete various projects and classroom activities that relate to the Health and PE curriculum. The following are examples of possible projects scholars will be evaluated on:
1. Developing a personal fitness research project by setting a personal health goal. Collecting data to analyze the positive change that has impacted their overall wellbeing. Presenting their findings to the class that includes a graph of their progress.
2. Complete a health diary and reflection log.
3. Develop a teen health information product such as a website, magazine, or series of videos related to variety of health topics such as: sexuality, nutrition; alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; mental, social and emotional well-being; etc.
4. Participating in fitness challenge which includes collecting data through fitness tests including: curl ups or partial curl-ups; shuttle run; endurance walk/run; V-sit reach; pull ups or right angle push-ups.

MEDICAL EXCUSES / CLASS ABSENCES:
Scholars will be expected to dress out every day for PE/Health. If students do not dress out, they will have an opportunity to make up their points via various assignments given by the project manager. However, if a scholar does not dress out and/or participate three times or more, scholars will not have the opportunity to make up the points missed and the scholar will lose the points for that day.
