Welcome to Mr. Baca's Classroom!

I am happy to welcome you to both (6th) Fundamentals of Biomed and (8th) Physical Science. It is my hope that this is a year of learning for all of my scholars on the basics of physical forces, chemical properties, artificial limbs, data collection, forensics, and much more.

In order to navigate: locate your Google Classroom on the menu bar at the bottom of this page. Click on the link to the page for your class. You will need to use this website in conjunction with Google Classroom where you will find copies of PowerPoint Presentations, rubrics, forms, and other items that you may have forgotten at school. Absent: Please check Google Classroom and your class page on this website to see what we covered in class, what was assigned, and what was due that day.

If you are Absent: Please check Google Classroom and your class page on this website to see what we covered in class, what was assigned, and what was due that day.

Late Work – As in the “real world”, projects completed early will be rewarded and projects submitted late will be penalized. This is project specific and indicated on the rubric for each project. Class work, homework, or other individual work will be assessed a penalty of 10% per day if turned in by 10 am on the Friday of the week in which it is due. A zero will be entered into the grade book if the assignment is not turned in on the due date to notify scholars and parents of the need to complete the assignment.
NO work will be accepted on a unit after the exam for the unit.

(8th) COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Physical Science is a course designed to enable scholars to explore basic physical science concepts. Scholars will focus on concepts that will include matter, atoms and the periodic table of elements, basic chemistry concepts, energy, waves, electricity and magnetism, and Newtonian physics.
STANDARDS:
This course is aligned to the New Mexico STEM Ready! Standards.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
Quarter Grades: Scholar’s will be evaluated on the following criteria within each quarter:
Assessments = Tests [30%], Projects [15%], Quizzes (includes Exit Tickets, Quick Quizzes, etc.) [15%],
Practice = Labs [15%], Classwork (includes notes, research, rough drafts) [20%],
Homework [5%]
Semester Grades
Scholar’s semester grades will be calculated as follows:
Quarter 1(3) – 40% Quarter 2(4) – 40% Semester Final – 20%

GRADING SCALE:
The following is the grading scale that will be used for this course:
A+ = 97-100 % A = 96-94% A- = 93-90%
B+ = 89-87% B = 86-84% B- = 83- 80%
C+ = 79-77 % C = 76–74% C- = 73-70%
N/C = Below 69

(6th) COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The focus of this course is to reinforce the middle school science curriculum as it relates to the biomedical sciences. Topics include basic scientific methods (observation, data collection and analysis, formulating and testing hypotheses, creating procedures, and basic laboratory skills), bio-rhythm’s, independent research, artificial limbs, and applied forensics (crime scene analysis).
