Welcome, 8th-grade Scholars! I look forward to creating art and technology with you. 

 

Required Supply List: 

1. An artist sketching set with sharpener and eraser. Some inexpensive options are here, here, or here.

2. A 9X12 Mixed Media paper pad. Some easy buying options are here, here, or here but can be found in many stores.

 

Optional Supplies:

Helpful supplies include an apron (to protect the uniforms), latex-free disposable gloves, plastic table cloth, paper towels, glue, painters' tape, paint brushes, colored pencils, markers, and scissors.

More supplies may be requested throughout the academic year to assist scholars in their artistic goals.

Course Description:

Art and Technology is a project-based course in which scholars will be creating, producing, responding, and connecting with art. We will use the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to create amazing art projects. Scholars will generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and experiment with different media/art technology.  Scholars will:

  • Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work. 
  • Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
  • Refine and complete artistic work.
  • Select, analyze and interpret artistic work for presentation.
  • Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. 
  • Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work.
  • Perceive and analyze artistic work. 
  • Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work. 
  • Apply criteria to evaluate artistic work. 
  • Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art.
  • Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical contexts to deepen understanding. 

 

Scholars will be expected to work independently and collaboratively during their class time. Homework will always be posted on the teacher’s website.

Mrs. Vázquez expects her scholars to

Supplies:

Scholars are expected to come to class each day prepared. In order to be prepared for 8thth grade Art and Technology, scholars will need the following: 

         An artist sketching set with a sharpener and eraser, a 9X12 Mixed Media paper pad. (Please see my website for links.) 

Helpful supplies that are not mandatory are an apron, latex-free disposable gloves, plastic table cloth, paper towels, glue bottle, painter’s tape, pack of paint brushes, colored pencils, markers, and scissors. 

More supplies may be requested throughout the academic year to assist scholars in their artistic goals. 


Grading:

  • The grading scale will follow the ASK Academy standards: 

A+ = 96-100 %    A = 90-95 %    B = 80-89 %    C = 70-79 %    N/C = Below 70 %

  • Penalties will be assessed for late work
  • No extra credit is offered, however, scholars may work with the Project Manager on Fridays to resubmit work, as allowed. 

Assignment/Product Expectations: 

Scholars are expected to produce high-quality, thoughtful work that shows evidence of the time given. Little homework will be assigned; however, work not completed in class may be assigned as homework. Penalties will be assessed for late work. It is the responsibility of the scholar to make arrangements to turn in assignments/products if an absence occurs. Any missed test/quiz will be taken on the day the scholar returns. It is the responsibility of the scholar to be prepared for the test/quiz upon return. Any scholar with an NC is expected to attend from 8-10 am on Friday.
