AP Literature & Composition

Course Description:

The AP English Literature and Composition course is designed to engage scholars in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of a wide range of gorgeously written, timeless texts, scholars can deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. Students will gain an understanding and appreciation for good literature as a tool for personal enrichment, and an understanding of the difference between objective and personal views. As they read, scholars will consider a work’s structure, style, intertextuality, and themes, as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Most importantly, this course should help scholars form a lifelong love for the written word!
