Hello! Welcome scholars and their families to a new school year!

My name is Gina Paulson and I am super excited to begin my third year at The ASK Academy teaching 6th grade Earth Science. Although newer to ASK, this school year marks nearly 19 years as a teacher and 3 years as an assistant, in all 22 years in education. My experience includes work at the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind, The Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, Groner K-8 School, and most recently Cielo Azul Elementary with Rio Rancho Public Schools.

It was my time at Groner K-8, in Hillsboro, Oregon, that I strengthen and developed my love of teaching science. This amazing, tiny school became one of the first schools in their district to develop a STEAM program and I had the honor of being a part of the beginning stages working directly with the students and the community creating an agricultural based STEAM program that serves K-8th grade. This incredible school left an indelible mark on my heart and The ASK Academy reminds me a great deal of my dear old school. I look forward to developing new relationships here and I am excited

to be here!

Science Week of August 30- September 3, 2021

- Thursday is a virtual setting. Class will meet via Google Meets (link in Google Classroom) at your regularly schedule period.

- The unit test is now moved to Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Busy week ahead with wrapping up assignments, studying for your unit test, and beginning our science fair chat. Be sure to study for your test, I will provide a study guide on Tuesday.

Conclusions in science and how to publish; handouts and notes
Write a conclusion in science; Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning
Quiz on variables- check what you know
Science Binder check-in on Wednesday All components are expected to be completed and in order. Check Google Classroom for the list. No Lab book check-in this time.
Design and experiment activity due Thursday
Unit test on Thursday - may utilize notes only

If you are at home, you will schedule a time to take your test when you return, continue to study and have all work completed. Work will be posted in Google Classroom.

Science Week of August 23-26, 2021

This week we will focus on all the elements of a scientific experiment. Please be prepared by having your science binder with plastic covers ready.

Elements of an Experiment; Controls, Constants, Variables, and more.
Analyzing data- now, what?
Special "selfie" science project practice.
Research time; topic focused and vetting reliable sources
Time to bring it all together now...using the scientific method, design a testable experiment.

* If you are unable to attend class, your work will be posted in Google Classroom with the materials I provide in class.

Happy Thursday to everyone! As we are now half way through our Scientific Method unit, I am asking that scholars bring/purchase one more item they will need as we progress through upcoming units, an index card box or similar container. We will be making flash cards for vocabulary and terms that will need to be memorized. We will also utilize the cards in class and I will grade for effort. The picture is an example of what I found at the dollar store. Please have this item ready by September 7, 2021. Thank you!

Mini nature walk on Tuesday (bring lab book)
Our first Lab Day on Thursday! Must have lab composition book. May bring lab coat or apron.
